RECREATION
Northern Light Viewing
The northern lights can be viewed from
mid-August to early April, weather
permitting. You don’t need anything
special - just a coat, an open view and as
little light as possible, for best viewing.
Berry Picking
August is when wild berries start to
ripen. There are local places to harvest
cranberries, blueberries, crow berries
and raspberries. Make sure you’re not
on private property and bring bug spray!
Fishing
There is limited local fishing, and it is
limited to small fish, like rainbow trout
and grayling. Otto Lake and a few other
locations are stocked by Alaska Fish &
Game, and many streams on the Denali
Highway have fish as well.
You will need a permit, learn more here.
Denali Fly Fishing Guides is a great place
to learn if you are new to fishing.
