BACKCOUNTRY SAFETY
WE KNOW HALF OF THE EXCITEMENT OF
WORKING IN DENALI IS OUTDOOR ADVENTURE.
USE THESE TIPS TO BE SAFE AND PREPARED.
Prepare for the Worst, Hope for the Best:
Hiking on trails vs backcountry: Accidents
can still happen on trails, so some of these tips
still apply. Use good judgement and ask an
experienced hiker if you need additional
information.
Proper gear: Denali Mountain Works has gear
rentals. This can be the single most important
aspect of any hiking or backpacking
adventures. You can get hypothermia in
temperatures as high as 50°F - with wind, rain,
and elevation all contributing. Always pack an
insulating layer, rain shell, wind shell, hat, and
gloves, along with extra food and water. That
way if something does go wrong, you’ll be
prepared to spend a few extra hours sorting
things out (or waiting for rescue).
