2022 DSP Annual Report - Flipbook - Page 3
DESTINATIONS
This report traces a journey to discover destinations in the mind,
the heart, and on a map—a college education, the gift of
camaraderie, and opportunities to explore. All learning, like travel,
starts with open-mindedness and in ambiguity; wisdom
(self-discovery!) is the goal.
What role can the Dorrance Scholarship Programs (DSP) play in
the pursuit of wisdom? Among our accomplishments in 2022: the
establishment of a minor in the Humanities for our mostly STEM
majors; a seminar on freedom of speech for our incoming class
(at a heretofore unimaginable time of censorship on college
campuses); a deeper collaboration with the 3rd Decade®
financial literacy program for our alumni; and the opening of a
new office and classroom for the NAU scholars.
Generous founders are central to these milestones. Sustained by
their gifts, nearly 600 students have received Dorrance
Scholarships since 1999. A wonderful staff comprised of Program
graduates, loyal to its mission, work hard and inspire; and a
dedicated board of directors supports the mission.
On the following pages, please explore a summary of the
Dorrance Scholarship Programs. We hope the scholars’
participation helps them fulfill Aristotle’s (or perhaps Plato’s)
maxim that “Knowing yourself is the beginning of all wisdom.”
