orthopedic trauma: internal fixation
Pin & Wire Management
Pins and wires were some of the earliest forms of internal
fixation. Today, pins and wires are often used in conjunction
with other forms of internal fixation, however, they can be
used alone to treat specific fractures.
SECUROS pins are made using a unique manufacturing
process that render the trocar tips concave instead of flat.
This creates a sharper cutting edge and 30% reduction in
heat generation as compared to traditional pins.
Conventional Plate Osteosynthesis
Conventional plates for internal fixation were first introduced in
the 1960s. They act like internal splints that hold broken pieces
of bone together. Plates are attached to the bone with screws
and rely on friction between the screw and bone for stability.
Alternatively, screws alone can be used to hold together specific
fractures.
SECUROS is proud to offer conventional plating implants and
instrumentation that follow AO/ASIF/ASTM/ISO standards. Our
conventional plating offering is manufactured in FDA approved
facilities that also serve the human orthopedic industry.

Polyaxial Locking Plate Osteosynthesis
Locking plates are a newer technology to veterinary medicine,
having only been commercially available since the 2000’s. Unlike
conventional plates and screws, locking plates and screws create
fixed angles that do not rely on screw purchase in bone. The threads
of the head of the locking screws mate with the holes in the plate to
form a rigid, fixed-angle construct.
SECUROS is the first and only veterinary company to offer patented
polyaxial locking plate osteosynthesis with the PAX system.
Features of the PAX system over traditional locking plate systems
include polyaxial locking up to 10 degrees, titanium alloy implants,
interchangeable screws between 2.0/2.4mm and 2.7/3.5mm
systems, and the ability to remove screws and adjust angulation.
Newly introduced in 2014 was our complete SP (Straight Plate) line
of PAX implants, instruments, and trays.
