The New Teachers Times - Flipbook - Page 16
Relationships for me were the key
to ensuring that children in my
classrooms were successful but,
more importantly, were happy.
So, back to the quote.
When such an environment exists,
problems that face children can be
solved and they can thrive.
The first time I saw it I didn't give it
a second thought. Now I think
about it often and understand it far
better. I don't in any way proclaim
to be a hero, but teaching is not
just about delivering lessons and
achieving academic results. To the
children you have in your care, you
are their chance to achieve
greatness.
As my career progressed and I
became a Headteacher, I continued
to underpin everything I did and
every decision I made by always
ensuring that the children's needs
were central.
I am proud to have achieved,
alongside some great staff teams,
5 outstanding Ofsted judgements,
be awarded a National Leader of
Education badge and be recognised
as providing the best School initial
teaching training in the country.
However, what makes me the most
proud is none of the above. It is
the amazing achievements that my
former pupils have gone on to do.
There are so many who have
overcome great challenges to
achieve things that they thought
were way beyond their reach and I
am extremely proud of them.
"Real heroes don't wear capes,
they teach."
Never underestimate the power
you have as a teacher of children.
A teacher does have a super power
- the power to influence, care,
inspire and nurture others.
What a great power to have.
In your first year of teaching use it
well, develop your super power and
be every child's hero.
