A box or a basket
Before the Lesson

Prepare Name Cards for students whose names begin with ‘I’.
Make cards with the words ‘India’ and ‘Italy’.
Do you remember?

Hold up the big 'L' card.
Ask: What letter is this? (Big 'L')
Say and do the actions: Look, Look, the letter is 'L'. Listen, listen, the sound is /l/.
Repeat with the small ‘l’ card.
Play the ‘L’ Chant (track 8).
Go to the ABC poster. Have a student find the letter 'L' on the poster.
Sing the ABC Song (track 7). When you get to the letter 'L' in the song, have students
raise their left hands in the shape of 'L'.
As you sing the song, point to each letter as you sing it. Sing slowly.
Draw a small ‘l’ on the board. Ask: What shape is it? (a line)

• Draw a small ‘i’ on the board. Ask students what shape it is. (a line)
• Ask: What is the difference between the small ‘i’ and small ‘l’? (It is smaller and it has
a dot on top.)
