Name Cards Activity
If there are any students in the class whose names begin with ‘I’ (short ‘i’) e.g. Irena:
• Say the name of the student. Ask: What sound do we hear at the beginning of the
name? (/i/)
• Hold up the card with the student’s name.
• Tell them that this is how we write ___________’s name in English. Point out that
names in English begin with a big letter.
• Give the card to the student to attach to their desk.
If the name begins with a long ‘i’ sound, e.g. Ivan or Isaac, show the name card. Say that
here the letter ‘I’ has a different sound that we will learn later.
