Name Cards Activity
If there are any students in the class whose names includes the letter ‘X’, follow the
instructions for the Name Cards Activity in Lesson 8, on page 21.
Letter Cards
• Open the Workbook to pages 43 and 45.
• Have students carefully remove the ‘X’ and ‘x' Letter Cards.
• Ask: What is the same and what is different between ‘X’ and ‘x’? (They look the same
but one is big and one is small.)
• Have students take out their Letter Cards, ‘V’, ‘v’, ‘W’, ‘w’ and ‘X’, ‘x’ and match them.
• Say: Point to the letter ‘V’. Chant together: The letter is ‘V’. The sound is /v/. The word
is ‘violin’. Do the action.
• Say: Point to the letter ‘W’. Chant together: The letter is ‘W’. The sound is /w/. The
word is ‘wings’. Do the action.
• Say: Point to the letter ‘X’. Chant together: The letter is ‘X’. The sound is /ks/. The word
is ‘taxi’, the word is ‘box’, the word is ‘Max’. Do the action.
ABC Poster, Mural and Song
• Have students point to the letters ‘Ll’, ‘Ii’, ‘Vv’, ‘Ww’ and ‘Xx’ on the poster.
• Tell students to chant: The letter is __. The sound is / /. The word is ______. Do the
appropriate action for each letter.
• Hold up the mural piece for ‘Xx’.
• Ask students where they think the letter ‘X’ goes. (after the letter ‘W’)
• Put up the ‘Xx’ Mural Piece next to the ‘Ww’.
• Sing the ABC Song (track 7). Do the actions that go with the letters learned.
Workbook (page 16)
Open the Workbook to page 16.
Activity 1
• Have students take out their plasticine. Have them roll small logs to cover the ‘x’s at
the top of the page.
• Have students color the letters at the top of the page, following the direction of the
arrows.
Activity 2
• Draw a small ‘x’ on the Letter House poster. Ask students where small ‘x’ lives. (in the
middle of the house)
• Draw a big ‘X’ on the Letter House poster. Ask where the big ‘X’ lives. (on the top floor
and in the middle of the house)
• Have students write rows of ‘X’s. As they write each letter, they can say the sound /ks/
.
