Open the Workbook to page 17.
Activity 1
• Have students take out their plasticine. Have them roll small logs to cover the ‘Y’s at
the top of the page.
• Have students color the letters at the top of the page, following the direction of the
arrows.
Activity 2
• Draw a small ‘y’ on the Letter House poster. Ask students where small ‘y’ lives. (it
starts in the middle of the house and goes down to the bottom floor)
• Draw a big ‘Y’ on the Letter House poster. Ask where big ‘Y’ lives. (on the top floor and
in the middle of the house)
• Have students write rows of ‘Yy’s. As they write each letter they can chant:
The letter is ‘Y’. The sound is /y/. The word is ‘yes’, the word is ‘yellow’.
Activity 3
• Ask students to point to the four yo-yos (with small letters at the top).
• Draw a line from each small letter at the top to the capital letter that matches it at the
bottom.
Activity 4
• Look at the pictures.
• Ask students what each picture shows.
• Say the word written below each picture. (yoga, yo-yo, yellow)
• Have students repeat the words after you.
• Have students trace the ‘y’s.
• Ask students how many ‘y’s there are in ‘yo-yo’.
• Now ask them, what other letters they know in the word ‘yellow’. (‘l’, ‘w’) Have students
trace them.
