Before the Lesson

Prepare Name Cards for students whose names begin with ‘F’.
Get a balloon that will make a loud /f/ /f/ /f/ sound when the air is let out of it.
Lesson Procedure
Small 'f', Action and Chant
• Hold up four fingers with your right hand. Ask: How many fingers do you see? (four).
What sound does the word ‘four’ begin with? (/f/) Say with the class: /f/ /f/ /f/ /f/ /f/ /f/
• Draw an ‘f’ on the board.
• Chant with the whole class: The letter is ‘F’. The sound is /f/. The word is ‘four’.
• Ask students: What other words do you know that begin with /f/? (father)
• Have students chant with you (track 27): The letter is ‘F’. The sound is /f/. The word is
‘four’, the word is ‘father’.
• Ask students what shapes make an ‘f’? (two lines - one line has a hook at the top)
Name Cards Activity
• If there are students whose names begin with the letter ‘F’ follow the instructions of the
Name Cards Activity in Lesson 8, on page 21.
• Draw a big ‘F’ on the board and ask what shape it has. (three lines)
• Now Ask students what the difference is between the big ‘E’ and the big ‘F’? (big ‘E’
has three lines across and ‘F’ has only two)
