Hold up your two hands with fingers spread apart and say: ten fingers, /t/, ten.
Have students repeat the words and action with you: /t/ /t/ ten.
Draw a ‘t’ on the board. Chant (track 28): The letter is Tt’. The sound is /t/. The word
is ‘ten', the word is 'taxi’. Have students repeat after you.
Ask them what shapes make a ‘t’. (a line and a hook)
Now ask what letter small ‘t’ looks like. (small ‘f’)
Now ask: How are small ‘t’s and small ‘f’s different? (a small ‘f’ has a hook at the top
and a small ‘t’ has a hook at the bottom)
Name Cards Activity
• If there are students whose names begin with the letter ‘T’, follow the instructions for
Name Cards Activity in Lesson 8, on page 21.
• Draw a big ‘T’ on the board. Ask what shapes it has. (two lines)
• Draw a big ‘I’ on the board. Ask what it is. (The letter ‘I’)
• Ask them what the difference is between the big ‘T’ and the big ‘I’. (big ‘T’ has a big line
at the top and big ‘I’ has a small line at the top and a small line at the bottom)
Letter Cards
• Open the Workbook to pages 43 and 45.
• Have students carefully remove the ‘T’ and ‘t’ Letter Cards.
• Chant: The letter is ‘T’. The sound is /t/. The word is ‘ten’, the word is 'taxi'.
• Have students take out the ‘Ff’ and the ‘Ii’ Letter Cards.
• Tell them to line them up on their tables with the big and small letters in pairs, i.e. ‘Ff’
and ‘Ii’.
• Say: Point to the letter ‘F’. Chant and do the appropriate action: The letter is ‘F’. The
sound is /f/. The word is ‘four’. The word is ‘father’.
• Repeat for the letter ‘I’.
• Call out: Big ‘F’. (Students must raise the correct card.)
• Call out: ‘small f’. (Students must raise the correct card.)
• Repeat with small and big ‘Tt’s and ‘Ii’s.
ABC Poster, Mural and Song
• Have a student point to the letters ‘Tt’ on the poster.
• Chant with students and have them do the appropriate action: The letter is ‘T’. The
sound is /t/. The word is ‘ten, the word is 'taxi'’.
• Hold up the mural piece for ‘Tt’.
• Ask where they think the letters ‘Tt’ go. (after ‘Ss’)
• Hang up the mural piece.
• Sing the ABC Song (track 7). Do the actions for the letters they have learned.
