Before the Lesson

Prepare Name Cards for students whose names begin with ‘U’.
Provide a large card with the small letter ‘u’.
Lesson Procedure
Actions and the letter ‘u’.
• Say: Everybody stand up. / ŭ / / ŭ / up. The class stands up.
• Put both hands in front of you, palms facing up.
•

Raise both hands upwards together as you say: / ŭ / / ŭ / up, / ŭ / / ŭ / up.
Have students stand up as you say ‘up’.
Have half the class copy the hand action and say: / ŭ / / ŭ / up while the other half
stand up.
Then the standing students say: / ŭ / / ŭ / up while the other students stand up.
