2. DECISIONS, DECISIONS
WHAT TYPE OF VEHICLE DO YOU NEED?
You know you need a vehicle. The question is, where do you start?
Reading about cars can feel like learning a foreign language if you’re not familiar with
the lingo. Fortunately, it’s not nearly as hard to learn as it looks. For most customers,
the list of viable car body styles will boil down to these options:
•
Sedan: This is one of the most common cars you see on the road. Sedans are
compact, fit 4-5 people, and have a separate compartment for the trunk. Because
of their size, sedans typically get the highest gas mileage outside of hybrid or
electric cars. These are a great choice for most drivers with general needs.
•
Truck: Pickup trucks are just as common as other types of vehicles these days,
especially in more rural parts of the country. Trucks can vary tremendously in
size, seating, and towing capacity, and are available with any of the technology
and amenities of other cars. Trucks are great for transporting large items, and the
vehicle of choice for people who ever need to tow anything.
•
Hatchback: Hatchbacks are roughly the size of a sedan, though generally a little
taller yet a little smaller lengthwise. The main difference is the trunk, which is not
delegated to a separate compartment. Hatchbacks are great if you need your back
seats for extra storage, or if you’re transporting extra long items like skis.
•
Minivan: If you need a lot of space, a minivan just might do the trick. Minivans
fit 6-8 people, have lots of headroom, yet still drive like a smaller car. Minivans
are designed as people carriers, so you’ll often see features like interior climate
control that can help keep a full vehicle happy. If you have a lot of people (and
pets) to transport, a minivan is the way to go.
•
SUV: SUVs are great for people who need a big vehicle that can perform under
pressure. Though SUVs can be slightly smaller than Minivans and might take a
small hit in gas economy, they make up for it with powerful engines that can tow
over 8,000 pounds on average. SUVs also perform exceptionally well in rough
weather. For anyone who needs either of these things, an SUV is perfect.
