POLICIES
Illness
Children who show signs of illness should not be in school, for your
child’s health as well as that of the entire school community. Keep
children home if they exhibit one or more of the following:
• Fever over 100ºF. Your child should be fever-free for at least 24
hours before returning to school
• Diarrhea (more than one abnormally loose stool per day)
• Vomiting
• Nausea
• Severe cough
• Severe cold symptoms (excess mucous, coughing, runny eyes)
• Unusual yellow color to skin or eyes (jaundice)
• Skin or eye lesions or rashes that are severe, weeping, or pus-filled
• Stiff neck or headache with one or more of the above symptoms
• Difficulty breathing or wheezing
• Complaints of severe pain
Some of these symptoms may indicate a serious illness that requires
immediate medical attention. Call your pediatrician if you are unsure
if your child is well enough to attend school.
If your child contracts a contagious condition such as chicken pox,
lice, pink eye, etc., report it to the school immediately so other families may be alerted to possible exposure. No mention will be made of
the child or family’s name in any notification.
When a child becomes ill at school, their parents are contacted immediately. If a parent cannot be reached, the child will remain at school
until the parent is contacted. A child who is not well enough to go
outside should not come to school.
