PROGRAM
Education of Students with Disabilities
Lewis & Clark Montessori Charter School complies with all policies
and procedures according to the Charter Agreement between Lewis &
Clark Montessori and Gresham Barlow School District in compliance
with the Oregon Department of Education. The term “special education student” means a student or prospective student of Lewis &
Clark Montessori who is eligible for special education and related services under IDEA or has an Individualized Education Program (IEP).
TEACHER/STAFF REFERRAL OF A STUDENT
This process must start with the student’s teacher filling out a SAT
Referral Questionnaire and submitting it to the Lewis & Clark Montessori Administrator. This will begin the referral process for a Student Assistant Team to review. The Administrator will then inform
the parents and Special Education contact person to arrange a team
meeting with relevant team members including the student’s parents
to consider the appropriate next steps.
PARENTAL REFERRAL OF A STUDENT
If a parent suspects that a child has a speech problem or learning difficulty, they should inform their child’s teacher and the Administrator.
As above, this will begin the referral process for a Student Assistant
Team to review.
INCOMING STUDENTS
Lewis & Clark Montessori staff and personnel will comply with State
and Federal law regarding an incoming student identified as a special
education student. The Administrator at Lewis & Clark Montessori
will meet with the servicing district’s special education team to discuss
the services required and implementation needed for the incoming
student, as well as appropriateness of placement in the charter school.
