Charter Renewal and Request for Expansion
Evergreen prepared an application to renew its charter during the summer of 2013. The application included
input from parents, staff, board members, administrators and students. Information about Evergreen’s
curriculum, policies, staffing, mission, governance, finance and other areas were submitted. Evergreen also
requested expansion to add a sixth grade.
Our 2013-2014 enrollment increased by an additional 50 students:

Approval for a three year charter term
Evergreen’s charter renewal included a three-year term. While Evergreen had hoped for a five-year charter,
it was told that these are seldom granted. Additionally, with the emergence of Common Core, scores took a
downturn. Evergreen needed to focus on achievement. Evergreen’s request for expansion to add a sixth grade
was denied.
Construction on the Lower Level of the Building
Over the summer of 2014, construction on the lower level of the Center was finished. This included a second
multipurpose room in the Center as well as offices and a computer room. With the completion of this space,
construction on the Center was officially finished in 2014! This marked the culmination of a four-year
process to finish building-out the center, floor by floor, since the Inauguration.
Evergreen Requests to Expand to a sixth grade
Evergreen submitted an application for expansion to offer a sixth grade again in December of 2014. Students
and families wrote letters in support of Evergreen’s application. Students, parents, staff, and administrators
along with the Board had high hopes for Evergreen’s sixth grade expansion. The effort was momentous.
Many parents came to the school to write letters. Those that were not able to write were assisted by Evergreen
staff members. Students also wrote detailed letters about why they wanted a sixth grade.
