FOP Legislative Update - Journal - Page 38
Week 8 Updates
April 24-28
The Fraternal Order Of Police Legislative team has worked with several legislators to
make this a very successful session for law enforcement. We have pushed for the
passage of the FOP priority issues and several issues that will have a positive impact
upon the law enforcement community. We are still working on budget pay raise issues
and we look forward to continued success is this complicated area of legislative session.
The largest issue that makes the budget process so complicated, is that all true
negotiations take place behind closed doors. The remaining priority issues are raises in
the budget, The Senate Tax Package, and The HALO legislation. We are currently
working on the FDLE pay raise issues and look forward continued negotiations. As we
approach the crush of the final week of session we must be prepared to fight off any
amendments that have a negative impact upon law enforcement and push our issues
over the finish line.
This week began with the Florida Fraternal Order Of Police Law Enforcement Memorial,
where the FOP was joined by several legislators to honor the fallen and their families.
Senator Tom Wright, Representatives Brannan, Caruso, Trabulsy, Cross, Gossett-Siedman,
Garcia, Yeager and Botana. Commissioner Richard Davison from the Commission on
Offender Review joined the law enforcement dignitaries.
