Maria Island Re-Discovered project, to improve
the experience and amenities for visitors to the
island, as well as commercial operators,’’ Mr
Gutwein said.

Mr Gutwein said.

“ECH are working actively with all parties to

The GP shortage has

FUND raising event,
the Devil of a Swim, was
again held at Bicheno early last month.
The weather gods made
the sun shine and the seas
were sparkling, but chilly.
First started in 2009 as
a way to raise funds for
research into the devil facial tumour disease, the
swim attracted an enthusiastic crowd.
Bicheno resident and
former Olympic swimmer Shane Gould is a big
supporter of the event,
which was inspired by the
story of local Aboriginal
woman and superb swimmer, Wauba Debar (17921832), who swam 2km
off shore to rescue two
sealers from drowning.
The event was a huge
success for the Bicheno
Surf Life Saving Club.
Saffire donated an
all-inclusive one night
stay to the 5km race winners.

winners Jayde Richardson and Michael Boult.
