Airport road change
Bridge gives
locals peace
of mind
THE new Orford Rivulet Bridge on
Rheban Road in Orford has been officially
completed.
Liberal Senator for Tasmania Claire
Chandler recently inspected the project
which she said would reduce isolation in the
case of future flood events.
“The replacement of the Orford Rivulet
bridge with a new structure has made it
easier and safer for locals to cross the
rivulet,’’ Senator Chandler said.
“The old bridge was demolished and
replaced with a stronger concrete bridge
designed to better endure flood events and
cater for both motorists and pedestrians
crossing the rivulet.”
Glamorgan-Spring Bay Mayor, Robert
Young said the October 2020 flood event had
destroyed the bridge and left many in the
Orford community stuck until a temporary
bridge had been installed.
“It has given the Orford community peace
of mind knowing the new bridge is more
durable to withstand future flood events.’’
This project received $1 million in funding
from the Federal Government under the
Community Development Grants Program
and $24,210 from the Glamorgan-Spring
Bay Council.

Having led Labor to
back-to-back losses, the
future of Ms White as
leader is under a cloud,
but she wasn’t giving
anything away during
her concession speech on
election night.
The projected make-up
of the House of Assembly
is 13 Liberal, nine Labor,
two Green and one independent. This would give
the Liberals the same narrow majority it had just
prior to calling the snap
election.
The independent would
most likely be Glenorchy
Mayor Kristie Johnston
who is ahead of Liberal
turned independent Sue
Hickey on primary votes.
Mr Gutwein has outlined his immediate priorities with a “100 Day Implementation Plan’’.
They include releasing
a new sitting schedule for
Parade, which will then
join back onto the Tasman Highway via a new
connection.
Traffic heading to
Sorell will need to leave
the Tasman Highway via
a new exit lane, which
will enter the roundabout
via Kennedy Drive and
then turn left onto the
Tasman Highway. Signs
will be placed to guide
road users. as well the
speed limit dropping to
40km/h.
the resumption of Parliament, and schedule a new
legislative agenda to give

Home Owner Grant from
$20,000 to $30,000.
The Government will
meet with each major private hospital, as well as
the community nursing
and home-care sector, to
discuss the provision of
services to take pressure
off the public hospital
system and work to put
arrangements in place by
June 30.
In the closing days of
the election, the Liberals
made specific promises
for the South East region
of Tasmania.
“We are the strongest
supporters of our regional communities and as
a Government we have
worked to support the
Sorell and South-East region’s plans for economic
growth and job creation,’’
Mr Gutwein said.
The
Government
promised
to:
• invest additional funding of $50 million towards
the upgrade of the Arthur
Highway.
This will include upgrades along the length of
the highway between the
connection with the new
Sorell Southern bypass
and Port Arthur;
• provide $1.5 million
towards the $3 million
Tasman
