Devil’s Corner expands
Winery for all seasons
EAST Coast winery Devil’s
Corner has announced expansion plans to its cellar door at
Apslawn.
The project will be completed in time for summer
2021.
A popular stop along the
Great Eastern Drive, the expansion will offer locals and
travellers a year-round destination with more space and
shelter to enjoy wine and
food.
Tasmanian architects Cumulus Studio have been reengaged to ensure the originality and aesthetic of the
current site remains while
Launceston’s Anstie Constructions will manage the
build.
Cumulus Studio director
Peter Walker said the team
were looking forward to
continuing the environmentally conscious strategies put
in place from the beginning.
“Cumulus are very excited
to see the next stage of Devil’s Corner start construction,’’ Mr Walker said.
“With increasing awareness of the role buildings play
in our environment, we felt
it was important to continue
many of the environmentally
sustainable practices that we
initiated at the beginning
of the project - from material selection to prefabrication techniques.”
Devil’s Corner marketing manager Will Adkins said the expansion
would take the same approach, catering for all
seasons.
“Calm autumns, wild
winters or warm summers, we have no control over the weather,
but with the new site expansion, we will be able
to ensure visitors can experience the very best of
Devil’s Corner no matter
the season,’’ Mr Adkins
said.
“New and improved
shelter areas as well
as more casual spaces
will help accommodate
the increasing number
of visitors to the cellar
door each year.”

Perishable backflip
AUSTRALIA Post has
reversed its decision to
stop transporting perishable goods.
Earlier this year, Australia Post announced it
would be stopping the
carriage of perishable
foods through their networks.
Citing significant regulatory
requirements
which varied from state-
to-state, the decision
caused an outcry among
small businesses across
the nation which relied on
the service to ship their
goods to customers.
Australia Post last week
announced it would continue its previous service.
An industry working
forum, to be co-chaired
by Australian Small Business and Family Enter-
prise Ombudsman, Bruce
Billson had been formed
to resolve cross-state regulatory issues as part of
Australia Post’s commitment to support producers shipping perishable
goods.
The
announcement
was a relief to small businesses and producers, but
a sense of caution is still
being felt.
