AUSTRALIA Post has reversed its decision to stop
transporting perishable goods.
Earlier this year, Australia
Post announced it would be
stopping the carriage of perishable foods through their
networks.
Citing significant regulatory requirements which varied
from state-to-state, the decision caused an outcry among
small businesses across the
nation which relied on the
service to ship their goods to
customers.
Australia Post last week announced it would be continuing its previous service, with
the assistance of an Australian Small Business and Family Enterprise Ombudsman,
Bruce Billson.
Australia Post said an industry working forum, to be
co-chaired by Mr Billson, had
been formed to resolve crossstate regulatory issues as part
of Australia Post’s commit-
ment to support producers
shipping perishable goods.
The announcement came
as a relief to small businesses
and producers, but a sense of
caution is still being felt.
Red Cow Organics general
manager Andy Jackman said
producers were blindsided by
the decision, and while the
backflip was a relief, it was
not a permanent fix.
“I think it’s a good measure, but it is only temporary,
a few things that need to be
resolved, we need to have
confidence in Australia Post,
that business that sell product
online can continue to do so,”
Ms Jackman said.
“We need to work with
Australia Post to ensure we
can deliver to customers, so
we can guarantee that we can
get our produce to consumers
in regional locations, and the
Australia Post network is really the only way we can do
that.”
Week to sip quality dram

would include special
dinners around the State.
“We have ‘celebrity’
chefs in Analiese Gregory, ex-Franklin, in the
south, and Massimo
Mele, now at Marriott

north,’’ Ms Akmentins
said.
