Operating Your Wood
Heater Efficiently
Excessive smoke from wood
heaters can be a major contributor
to air pollution. Smoke can be
a nuisance to your neighbours
and contains pollutants that are
known health hazards. Be a good
neighbour this winter and reduce
wood smoke from your flue by
following these tips:
• Only burn dry, seasoned
firewood.
• Always burn with a flame –
don’t let your fire smoulder.
• After reloading your wood
heater, open the air control
and burn the fire on high for
20 minutes, especially before
going to bed.
• Make sure your flue is in good
working order by having it
cleaned annually.

life-threatening
complications.

the flu is recommended for all
people from six months of age
and is free for pregnant women,
children under 5, adults over 65
and anyone with a predisposing
health issue. Please see your

Ambo hub
approved
A DEVELOPMENT application for Sorell’s new
$12 million Emergency
Services Hub has been
passed by Sorell Council.
The new hub will be
built on vacant land next
to the Community Health
Centre in Cole Street.
The hub will be built
on the greenfield site and
will house emergency
personnel in a modern
and well equipped facility.
Previously, Police, Fire
and Emergency Management Minister and Lyons
MP Mark Shelton has
said the hub would be
particularly important in
helping to build a positive working relationship
between emergency per-
Mark Shelton
sonnel and the community they serve.
“We are delivering
on our commitment to
acquire land and begin
planning for the hub with
building expected to be
completed in early to
mid-2022,’’ Mr Shelton
said.
“The Sorell Council
had a substantial parcel of land in central
Sorell which is ideal for
the hub and we thank the
council for supporting
this important community facility.’’
The South East region
and Sorell in particular is
one of Tasmania’s fastest
growing areas in the state.
The hub will also provide accommodation for
the SES, which at present
do not have a volunteer
presence in Sorell.
The number of police
stationed at Sorell will
also increase by three, to
support around the clock
policing patrols.
Lions keep trucking
The Lions Club holds one of their regular sausage sizzles outside Holts
Mitre 10 at Sorell.
GRAEME EVANS
SORELL Lions will be
helping with the barbecue to supply food at the
South East Suns Truck
Show on Sunday, June
13 at Pembroke Park.
The truck show is getting bigger and better every year and is now one
of the biggest events on
the Sorell calendar.
Funds raised go towards helping the South
East Suns women’s football teams, including the
underage.
Club members helped
with the setting up at
the RSL, to be ready for
ANZAC Day and laid
wreaths on the RSL Memorial on ANZAC Day.
The Giant Book Sale
was on once again and
was very successful.
Money raised was sent
to Lions Clubs in the
flood affected areas in
NSW, Queensland and
Victoria, to distribute.
Another recent fund
raiser was a barbecue
at Holt’s Mitre 10. Lots
of hungry customers
stopped for a sausage.

Airport access altered
CONSTRUCTION at the
new Hobart airport interchange will mean changes to how traffic travels through the airport
roundabout in May 2021.
The number of exits
from the roundabout will
be reduced from five to
four, with vehicles diverted onto alternative
roads.
Traffic heading to Ho-
bart will need to exit the
roundabout via Cranston
Parade, which will then
join back onto the Tasman Highway via a new
connection.
Traffic heading to
Sorell will need to leave
the Tasman Highway via
a new exit lane, which
will enter the roundabout
via Kennedy Drive and
then turn left onto the
Tasman Highway. Signs
will be placed to guide
road users, as well the
speed limit dropping to
40km/h.
The Department of
State Growth has suggested allowing an additional eight minutes for
journeys past the construction, with plans to
keep the diversions in
place until early 2022.
