Advocacy your safety net
AT TasFarmers advocacy
is our key objective, vital
to protecting the agricultural industry and in昀氀uencing
decision-makers.
Through strategic efforts, we
ensure that Tasmanian farmers
are not only seen but heard and
also acted upon.
Being a primary producer
without a membership is like
driving a car that has never
been serviced and doesn’t have
roadside assistance.
Last year we were the driving
force that opposed detrimental
changes to the Tasmanian 昀椀re
and emergency services levy,
advocating for fairness and
equity between urban and rural
residents.
The proposed changes would
have seen urban residents pay
less toward 昀椀re and emergency
services while farmers under
one of the proposed future
models would have faced an
increase of 1000 percent.
This saving alone would have
more than offset the annual cost
of a TasFarmers membership.
Similarly, we have taken a
proactive approach to ensure

our members are treated with
respect and receive maximum
compensation when impacted
by development projects on
their land.
Our united voice has ensured
that concerns are listened to,
information to support decision
making is made available and
that compulsory acquisition is
not used as a threat.
In partnership with the Victorian Farmers Federation we
have also launched the Farm
Access Code, ensuring farmers’ rights are upheld and
respected by all stakeholders
wishing to access land.
We think that this document
will become the national standard, which sets the benchmark
for external parties.
While these issues may grab
headlines, countless others
often go unnoticed.
Your support of TasFarmers
empowers us to tackle a wave
of challenges, from eID implementation to biosecurity measures and working to improve
shipping for our Tasmania
Islands.
Our advocacy mission is
to support and sustain the
industry.
