Focus on food culture
IN August, celebrity
chefs, farmers, growers,
scientists, and climate change
champions will gather in
Launceston and the north to
present a captivating program
of events for the 2024
agriCULTURED festival.
Now in its fourth year,
agriCULTURED celebrates
the agri-food sector’s vital
contribution to culture,
community, and the economy.
The four-day event will
bring together Tasmania’s
rich agricultural heritage with
the region’s vibrant cultural
scene, not to mention plenty
of local food and beverages.
AgriCULTURED chair
Caro Brown says the
event aims to educate the
community and help farmers,
growers and makers to
connect, learn and explore
big ideas around the future of
their industry.
“We are thrilled to launch
a program that builds on the
foundation established over
the last three years and offers
increased opportunities for
direct engagement between
those responsible for growing
our food and those that have
the privilege to consume it,”
she said.
The four-day event will
include dinners showcasing
local producers
(Grain of the
Silo’s), the art
of cooking with
昀椀re (Timbre),
conversations
on the
challenges
of producing
future food,
sustainability
and growth of
the industry,
culinary day
trip experiences on both
the Saturday and Sunday,
musical performances and
insights at the farm gate, a
pop-up soup kitchen, a book
launch, and the science and
art of fermentation.
This year, chef and
presenter Paul West (River
Farm Cottage) will join the
program, hosting a cooking
demonstration at Woolmers
Estate and leading the
keynote at Conversations in
the City.
Mr West will appear
alongside a list of impressive
talent including former
chef and food critic turned
producer, Matthew Evans,
Soil Scientist Dr Bianca
Das, chef Massimo Mele
(Peppina, Grain of the
Silo’s), chef Matt Adams
(Timbre), and entomologist
Dr John Finch, who together
will present dining events,
demonstrations, book
launches and workshops
across the weekend.
Standout new additions
to the program include
Mr West’s cooking
demonstration and keynote,
and “The Science Behind
Your Plate” dinner,
presented in partnership
with Tasmanian Institute
of Agriculture, TAS Farm
Innovation Hub and Diverge
restaurant.
Overall, the event will
be a celebration of science,
agriculture, and culinary
creativity offering farmers
and the greater industry the
opportunity to explore big
ideas, challenge current
practices and expand their
knowledge to help develop
secure food systems for
the future. Ticket sales are
available at agricultured.com.
