Day to celebrate
hazelnut harvest
TASMANIANS are in for a
treat next month at the first
Meander Valley Hazelnut Festival on February 7.
The festival will be held
at the Hazelbrae Farm near
Hagley and the day will
run from 11am to 4pm.
The family-friendly event is
timed to celebrate the beginning
of the hazelnut harvest season.
There will be something
for visitors of all ages with
hazelnut fairies leading stories,
music and games on the lawns
for children while the adults can
enjoy tractor tours throughout
the hazelnut orchard.
SATURDAY
A selection of the region’s
best produce will also be
showcased with a range of
stalls.
There will be a wide variety
of food and drink on offer,
including woodfired pizzas.
Festival patrons are also being
encouraged to bring along their
picnic blanket and enjoy some
of the local produce on the
lawns. Those with a sweet tooth
will also be catered for with a
Nutella-eating competition.
Music will be provided by
the Pete Cornelious Duo.

RAGWORT RAIDS: Tamar NRM
is again running a series of
weeding days tackling ragwort.
In East Tamar, the event will
be tomorrow, starting at Pipers
River Fire Station. In West
Tamar on Sunday the meeting
place is Winkleigh Hall and on
Wednesday the action moves
to Launceston with the troops
meeting at the intersection of
Tasman Hwy and Blessington
Rd. All ragwort days run from
9am to noon, lunch is provided.

GREAT GOATS: This year’s
GoatFest will be held at a
new location at the Longford
Showgrounds on Sunday. The
event will showcase everything
caprine, including breeds suited
to dairy and meat production
and miniature animals. The day
includes education, product
samples and demonstrations.
Competitions
range
from
artisan goat-milk soap to goat
arts and crafts. GoatFest runs
from 10am to 3pm. Entry by
donation.
FOCUS FARM: The 2020-2022
Tasmanian dairy focus farm,
Rosemount Ag at Cressy, will
host a virtual farm visit on
February 2. On the first Tuesday
of each month at 12.30pm farm
manager James Greenacre,
consultant Jeremy Savage and
Fonterra’s Richard Rawnsley
discuss what has been happening
on the farm and their plans. Go

Sheffield FlowerFEST will

the feature plant at the 2021
Gardenfest at Entally House at
Hadspen from February 27-28.
The event showcases the Entally
gardens and conservatory with
