Time to come together
WE are having some
beautiful autumn days
but watch I’m sure those
big frosts won’t be far
away.
From all reports I have
heard it was a busy Easter
and school holiday period
around the municipality.
From what I hear, there
have been great turnouts
also at Eaglehawk Neck
for the annual tuna competitions, what a great
event bringing a huge
number of participants
into the area.
I would like to wel-
come Allan Hull back
to Tasman Council after a recent recount from
the Tasmanian Electoral
Commission following
on from Cr Pam Fenerty’s resignation from
the council.
Allan has previously
served on Tasman Council and will bring back a
valued history, we look
forward to his contribution.
On Saturday, April 24
the Impression Bay Gardens had an open day and
the event was well sup-

MAYOR’S
REPORT
with Tasman Mayor
Kelly Spaulding
ported once again.
It was lovely to have
a walk around to see the
progress being made and
seeing the vision of the
garden starting to come
together.
I attended both the
Dawn and 11am ANZAC
Day services in Nubeena.
I don’t know official
numbers however, the
Dawn service seemed to
attract a great number of
people, a lot of who also
attended the early morning breakfast at the Tasman
Ex-Serviceman’s
Club that I was fortunate
enough to help out with.

of police suspects from
the 1920s. The candid and
compelling mugshots reveal the dark side of the

The 11 am service was
also well attended along
with the wreath laying
on behalf of the community.
A service was held in
the memorial gardens at
Port Arthur Historic Site
on Wednesday, April 28,
marking the 25th Anni-
versary of the Port Arthur Massacre.
This was an important
time for those affected to
come together as a community and remember and
pay respect for those lives
lost and all those that have
and are still affected in the
aftermath.
By the time you are
reading this report we
should have a newly elected Government for Tasmania.
I hope whatever the result, we get a clear win
that will allow Tasmania to
keep moving forward in a
strong economic and positive way.
The annual flu shot are
becoming available in
the community and also
COVID vaccines are starting to be made available so
keep a listen out as more of
this will become available
over the next few months
as the roll out continues.

LOCAL whisky distillers
will be on show at this

Some of Tasmania’s
most celebrated whiskies
are distilled on the Tasman Peninsula.

Southern Tasmania CEO Alex
Heroys said Tasmanian
Whisky Week was one
of the premium events on
the tourism/hospitality
calendar.
“The Tasmanian Whisky industry has a global
reputation for premium
quality,” Mr Heroys said.
“Tasmanian Whisky
Week continues to highlight this – delivering
events across the state
that attract international
attention.
“But it’s also our distillers’ innovation, entrepreneurship, work ethic,
cohesion and cooperative
spirit.’’
Tasmanian
Whisky
and Spirits Association
executive assistant Kate
Akmentins said events
would include special
dinners around the State.
“We have ‘celebrity’
chefs in Analiese Gregory, ex-Franklin, in the
south, and Massimo
Mele, now at Marriott
Luxury Collection Hotel The Tasman, in the
north,’’ Ms Akmentins
said.
Good advice for buying boats
THE sale of second hand
boats and whether they are
fit for purpose has come
under renewed focus by
Marine and Safety Tasmania.
MAST CEO Lia Morris said during and post
the COVID-19 pandemic,
there had been strong activity in boat registrations
and the sale and purchase
of new and second hand
boats.

“We know that second hand boat prices
have increased through
COVID-19 because of
the scarcity of new boat
supply into the state,’’
Ms Morris said.
“MAST is concerned
that as prices rise, some
prospective purchasers
may be buying boats
that are not fit for purpose.

All Port Arthur Historic Site ticket holders can

Authority
and the University of New

of buyer beware.
“There is no such thing
as a cheap boat.’’
Ms Morris said MAST
would attend Agfest in
early May to provide advice and information to the
boating and non-boating
public.
“We
reach
thousands of Tasmanians
every year at Agfest,”
she said.
“We are able to answer
a vast range of queries –
from safety equipment,
marine infrastructure and
life jackets to what to look
for when buying a second
hand boat.
“Our main advice if you
are buying a second hand
boat is to take someone
with you who knows about
boats or consult an expert.”
Ms Morris said Tassie’s
Agfest Boat Show also fea-
tured a number of MAST’s
Boat Safe Partners.
“People can find the
latest in boating gear, fishing tackle and clothing for
boaters.
“The Fishcare team will
be there, as well as displays
of the latest in high-density
polyethylene work boats,
new aluminium hulls, outboard motors, fibreglass
boats and personal water
craft.”
