community and to the
Federal Government.
“We were really lucky
that people decided to get
their travel budget and
invest it into their homes,”
Mr King said.
Three years ago we were
working from home offices,
we made the purchase of
this property in 2017 and
had been building this site
up in stages, but as a result
of the amount of work
we’ve had, we have seen it
fast-tracked.
“The demand went up and
we were very fortunate to be
one of the businesses to not
be effected too greatly by
COVID.”
Kings Outdoor Living
employs 13 staff from
the local area, including
fourth-year apprentice
Connor Berry, who has
recently relocated and built
in the Sorell area, as well
as carpenter Alec Carnes,
who secured a full-time
position as a result of the
Kings expansion after his
former employer went out of
business in late 2019.
A TASMANIA-based
business has ridden
the wave of COVID
renovations and, with a
little government help,
unveiled its foundations for
a big future.
Kings Outdoor Living
held a celebratory opening
for its new warehouse and
showroom in Sorell last
month, pulling together
family and workers,
politicians and the media
to exhibit the fruits of their
labour, and the groundwork
put in to maintain their
momentum.
King received a $303,250
grant under the Federal
Government’s Regional Jobs
and Investment Packages
program which, when
matched dollar-for-dollar
by Kings, enabled them
to develop a new display
area, increase its office and
admin area and to construct
a new assembly and storage
facility.
Sam King was the host
of the large unveiling
alongside his brother Will,

‘Caring for the Communities
UPDATE ON THE PROGRESS OF THE TASMAN
STRATEGIC PLAN 2021 – 2030
The response from the
community during the
consultations
for
the
Tasman Strategic Plan
has
been
fantastic.
Thank you to all the
community
members,
both
individuals
and
organisations who took time
out from their busy lives to
talk to us about their hopes
and concerns for the future
of the Tasman. Your input
has been vital in putting
together the Strategic Plan.
Once the final draft has
been completed it will be
provided to Councillors
for discussion in a Council
Meeting. If the draft plan
is endorsed by the Council,
it will then be available
for
public
comment,
prior to being finally
presented to the Council.
