GARY
TATE
IT’S A WAR OUT THERE
The struggle for life in a forest is complex, mysterious and aggressive.
Competition creates a distorted world of shapes and ridiculous contortions.
A journey through a forest banishes images of trimmed hedges and mown
lawns as perceived chaos rules to our sensible and ordered lives. Where a
carefully manicured garden explains itself the shapes in the trees and shrubs
provide no explanation other than the need for existence. My forest walks
have allowed my imagination to visualise stories full of tales and fantasy
where goblins and faeries live in secretive hollows and twisted branches. It is
only when the echo of my footsteps have long passed that the shy creatures
of the forest where the shapes are their refuge reveal themselves.
So next time you are in a forest look around see the shapes wear a smile and
enjoy your walk.
