Safety
Moment
1. Watch the weather.
Frequently checking your local weather radar can prevent getting caught
in unexpected severe weather. This can also give you and your team
adequate time to secure a jobsite if a weather emergency were to occur.
2. Inspect before beginning work.
Clear any snow or ice from any walking and working surfaces before
beginning work. Place salt and sand down in high-traffic or icy areas to
improve traction for workers.
3. Warm-up your equipment and tools.
Electrical wires and hoses can become brittle in cold temperatures.
Properly heating up equipment is important in order to avoid damaging
tools and other necessary work items.
4. Wear proper PPE.
Keeping warm is a top priority while working in the cold. Find a balance of
wearing layers that include moisture wicking thermals on the inside and
waterproof clothing on the outside. If clothes becomes wet, change article
of clothing to prevent losing body heat.
