LETTER
FROM EDITOR
While well on its way to becoming an overused buzzword, Web3 is more than just passing hype.
The fundamental concepts behind this arguably overused term are enduring and impactful.
Nearly fourteen years have passed since the enigmatic Satoshi Nakamoto introduced Bitcoin
to the world, with the goal of liberating people from centrally controlled currency. The global scale
experiment is ongoing and the casualties have been minimal, though quite messy for some investors.
Consequently, it’s no surprise that most of the world still views crypto as “magic internet money.”
Revolutions are rarely tidy, so if the advent of Web3 is a revolt, this one has fared well.
In recent years, the world has gained invaluable lessons, among which trust has featured heavily.
We’ve lost trust in governments, large conglomerates, big tech, medical institutions, education
systems, and so much more. The internet brought vast stores of information to our 昀椀ngertips,
ushering in a golden age of accessibility and knowledge. However, this progress also granted
centralized entities control over this information that they could manipulate at will.
The decentralization of information has never been more important.
Web3 is redistributing power and wealth to the periphery. When we take control of our digital
property rights, the possibilities are endless. The shift in ownership is already unleashing a new era
of business, networking, entertainment, and innovation. In the words of Jett Tang, producer of “The
Next Crypto Gem,” (see feature article in this issue of GeN3) “Web3 is an aspiration,” and according to
CryptoWendyO, “we’re still in beta.”
While developers continue to create and build, GeN3 steps forward to showcase the latest developments and innovations as they happen. We are here to tell the story of Web3.
