Growing Pains
2003-2007, the level of ambition was sky high. Broadcasting was successful, the staff increased,
knowledge of TV-Glad and the vision behind it spread. Many new initiatives were born simultaneously,
but in this book we will describe them one by one.
The time was ripe for formalised education of the target group.
“While we were still at Lyrskovsgade, the municipality brought along a young man about whom
they clearly said, ‘frankly, we doubt you can handle him!’ We invited him in, asked him his name, and
offered him a chair. This was a job interview like any other. The staff that escorted him found it peculiar.
He had a cleft palate and difficulties expressing himself. We had lots of time and interpreted his very
few words to mean that he would like to start with us,” remembers Henrik Marentius.
“On his very first day, he went straight to a corner and stayed there facing the wall, and we
couldn’t get him to move. Okay, we said, feel free. So long as he actually turned up. This continued for
two months, and when he finally turned around we applauded massively to recognise this first step.
This was the beginning of a very long process, and now he is one of our most stable employees in
Glad Food. He also attends all our parties and talks to everyone …”
