understand that the Gemara is teaching us that each time we review the
Gemara, there is an added depth to it, and one who climbs from one rung
to the next in scholarship is as different as a tzaddik is from a rasha. The
reason is because as one climbs each rung in the ladder and accesses
the next level he becomes a totally different person, unrecognizable to
his previous self. Just like a diamond of five carats is immeasurably worth
more than one of four carats, so too is every review, even if it only caused
a drop of scholarship to be gained, still worth more than its relative weight
in defining the person.
Here in the 101st year of the Yeshiva we are privileged to be actively
fulfilling both of these explanations. As we enter into our next century,
we are continuing a legacy of rabbanim and amalei Torah, of gedolim who
have charted the course of the Yeshiva to be a makom Torah, a bastion of
light in the Midwest. We are taking these initial steps and carrying them
further, taking the legacy of commitment to Torah and adding the 101st
dimension, that of love to Torah and to Hashem.
Additionally, every year that we add on to our rich legacy exponentially
increases the rich heritage the Yeshiva offers our talmidim. Like the
Chofetz Chaim says, the more that we add to it the richer it becomes on
an exponential level. This is the Yeshiva today, where we are standing on
the shoulders of giants, and are exponentially adding on to the treasures
they left us.
Hashem should continue to help us build the Yeshiva and help us provide
Klal Yisrael with a beautiful makom Torah for all our students to be
nurtured in the true spirit of ahavas Torah v’yiras shamayim!
B’Vracha,
Rabbi Moshe Revah
