Scalers and Micromotors
The Ultrasonic difference - Amplitude, Frequency and Tip Motion.
Smaller tip motion (movement) means less enamel damage.
iM3 42-12 Ultrasonic Scaler (42,000 cycles)
Unlike the other scalers mentioned above, the iM3 42-12 Ultrasonic
Scaler is unique because it uses high ultrasonic frequency, not the
physical scraping of the tooth, to remove plaque and calculus.
The 42-12 tip is round and rotates in a circular motion (0.02mm
diameter) causing little or no enamel damage. The tip has no
sharp sides like the Piezo or Cavitron style scaler. The 42-12
scaling tip is made from titanium and is fitted with a ferrite rod
(not metal). The tip generates little or no heat and can be safely
used subgingivally up to 13 mm.
Not all ultrasonic scalers
are the same!
The big advantages of the 42-12 is the speed at which a
prophylaxis can be performed and the ability to be used safely
subgingivally. Many users report that scaling time is reduced by
half when compared to previous scalers used.
“A survey of 4,737 AAHA Members in the USA - of which
667 responded completing a comparison of the 5 major
ultrasonic dental scalers in 15 categories - iM3 came in first
in every category, scoring a 90% overall satisfaction.”
