We have all heard the expression “a picture is worth a
thousand word” and this holds true in dentistry as well. More and
more dentists globally are adopting photography not just to
practise documentation and maintaining patient records but
also as a means of involving the whole practise team, in both
the patients treatment planning and in helping to increase
patient acceptance.
It is important to realize that self-analysis is a very critical
stepping stone in improving the quality of one’s own work. Buying
an expensive mobile or expensive dental chair might help in
improving the quality of work or for self –assessment but has its
own obvious limitations however an investment done in
buying a DSLR opens up greater and newer horizons for the
same . Patients today will definitely talk about you being
different from others in the way you work by making a simple
yet informative presentation of the images which helped them
realize the depth of the problems they are potentially facing
hence making it easier for them to take better decisions.
Chances that they might talk about your expensive dental
chair on the other hand are very few. The fact remains that
patients do speak about their experience with others in the
family or social circles and it’s wise to invest in something that
will make your work more presentable.
In today’s world it’s not only important to project yourself
verbally for example as a good implantologist or an aesthetic
dentist or any other but even letting your work do the talking
is a great yet a subtle way to do justice to your work.
