he Georgia Lottery Corp.’s fiscal year 2021 is off to
a tremendous start since we recently marked the
highest sales quarter in our 28-year history. For
the third quarter of FY21, we returned a record
$415.8 million in profits. That brings the total transferred to
the state treasury’s Lottery for Education Account since its
inception in 1993 to more than $23.4 billion.
All Georgia Lottery profits benefit Georgia’s Pre-K
Program and Georgia’s HOPE Program, which consists
of six different aid programs including the HOPE Scholarship, HOPE Grant, Zell Miller Scholarship, Zell
Miller Grant, HOPE GED Grant and HOPE
The educational programs
funded by the Georgia Lottery ensure that Georgia’s students attain
a quality education from start to
finish. Many of our students have
benefited from lottery funds twice—
at the beginning of their educational
journeys in Pre-K and again when
pursuing educational opportunities
beyond high school.
To date, more than 1.6 million
4-year-olds have attended lottery-funded Pre-K and more than 1.9
million students have received HOPE.
The impact of your Georgia Lottery
remains far reaching. The educational programs we fund
continue to lay the groundwork for Georgia’s evolving
and growing workforce, contributing to our economic
development, stronger communities and a brighter future for Georgia.
We work hard each day to return the greatest amount
possible to the state of Georgia and Gov. Brian Kemp
for HOPE and Pre-K. Over the past year, we faced many
challenges and made some operational changes like all
businesses. However, as we do in any environment, we
remain focused on our mission to maximize revenues for
HOPE and Pre-K, turning challenges into opportunities.
After an initial dip in sales at the onset of the pandemic, sales rebounded to record levels. There were many
factors that contributed to robust sales during this period.
Our modified business operations allowed us to maintain
continuity and productivity. Players became more familiar
with online play options. Additionally, most other forms of
entertainment were limited.
We’ve received a boost from some large Mega Millions and Powerball jackpots, which always drive excitement and generate additional dollars for HOPE
and Pre-K. Also, we receive profit
from Coin Operated Amusement
Machines, or COAMs, which we are
responsible for regulating.
Following up our record
first half of FY21 with a record
third quarter is truly remarkable and a testament to the
strong leadership and support of our board of directors
and the efforts of our talented
team. We remain appreciative of
our dedicated retailers, vendors
and partners for their diligence.
And as always, we are grateful
for our players who enjoy our
games and promotions, knowing that every ticket purchased
benefits education in Georgia.
We are committed to our mission and will
continue to work diligently for Georgia’s students.
We have some great new games, game enhancements
and fun promotions coming up as a source of entertainment for our players. Additionally, we are looking
to expand our digital offerings that are available on our
website and app.
Thank you for your continued support and your investment in our students. Every time you play a Georgia
Lottery game, Georgia’s HOPE and Pre-K students win big
. . . and I always like to add that you just might win big, too.
