As the unlimited universe of
AI unfolds, it begs the question of
whether there is a duty in certain
situations to ensure the use of AI for
our advantage. One important difference in the decision to use or not
use AI, is situational. How AI is used
within the education system is vastly
different from how it is used in our

military and national defense efforts.
Arguably this decision hinges on
whether a certain situation warrants
some type of action or inaction rooted in human emotion.
Creating a controlled, emotionless avenue for certain decision
making is necessary and beneficial, particularly as it relates to our
military. Compare a situation where
a military drone or autonomous
“solider” is tasked with a mission
requiring the elimination of an
enemy target to that same mission
being executed by a real-life human
being. An autonomous soldier could
do so without hesitation or emotional consequences, and eventually,
without mistake. Unfortunately, all
too often we see our veterans return
home with post-traumatic stress
disorder related to this very situation. However, if technology exists
to complete such a mission without
having to risk the well-being and
mental health of one of our own,
wouldn’t we as Americans be morally and ethically obligated to send
a drone or autonomous soldier to
battle over a human? Undoubtedly,
vulnerability in these situations can
be lessened using AI and this is just
one of a plethora of examples of how
AI can be used beneficially.
On the other hand, there are
areas in which emotion-based
decision making is rather necessary, such as the education system.
Due to the intrinsic need to have a
human-centered connection when
it comes to learning something new,
especially in the classroom, the job
