incentives that laid the foundation
for the success Georgia is now experiencing. The General Assembly has
worked hard this summer evaluating
many of these policies, and we will
continue to work closely with them
as they complete their review.
Georgia legislators understand
that improving the functionality,
transparency and long-term consistency of tax policy is an increasingly
important factor as states continue to
advance their own competitiveness.
Equally important to having an
ever-growing dynamic economy
is addressing lawsuit abuse. The
governor announced at our congressional luncheon in August that this
will be a top priority for his administration during the 2024 legislative
session. Georgia families are paying
over $4,000 annually in price hikes
and inflation while our businesses
are burdened with the rising cost
of insurance coverage because of
runaway jury verdicts sought by
personal injury attorneys. We look
forward to working alongside the
governor’s office and our elected officials to enact vital, common-sense
improvements to our judicial system
that unclog backlogs and ensure
fairness for the businesses and citizens of our state.
Fufrthermore, Georgia must
continue to invest in the infrastructure of the future. Completing Plant
Vogtle and building more natural
gas, solar and other means of power
generation will provide clean, safe
and efficient fuel for the future. Continued investment in broadband will
bridge the digital divide and expand
healthcare access.
Georgia must also address our
freight and logistics system. Freight
movement throughout Georgia is
expected to increase by over 48
percent by 2045. To sustain that
growth, we should be investing $1.5
billion annually to strengthen and
secure our critical infrastructure. The
Georgia Transportation Alliance is
working closely with the state Department of Transportation to develop a more dynamic system, and we’ll
be there to support those projects.
We have much to celebrate. The
Georgia Chamber will continue to
support economic competitiveness,
attract new development and promote growth and prosperity for all
businesses. Only when we work
together— business, government,
community, non-profits, and the faith
community— can we help build the
next generation of entrepreneurs
and small businesses. We will continue to champion the cause of free
enterprise through our advocacy
and thought leadership as Georgia
experiences an ever-changing and
evolving economic landscape.
