Appeal for sponsorships
St. Patricks College is a Catholic and private educational institution which charges
nominal school fees as it educates many students from the disadvantaged
families of the northern region of Sri Lanka. Jaffna has undergone a prolonged
period of unrest for over 25 years, the current economic situation has put
pressure on many of the families and the college waives school fees and supports
students by providing affordable fee structures. Students also depend on
scholarships, subsidies, and donations to attend the College. OBAs around the
world also help the college by providing assistance to improve facilities which
would aid students’ education.
Currently there are number of projects which are identified by Fr Rector for the
betterment of the college community and students. These are communicated to
various OBAs, and they support where possible. One of the projects is equipping
the Engineering Technology Lab which can help many students with their
practical classes. To provide a context, there are over 50 students in the
engineering stream, but only 5 can participate in “practicals” at any one time.
The Engineering stream, which forms part of the Technology Lab of the College,
provides the knowledge to those students prepare them for rigorous
employment standards, learn trading qualifications and obtain certificates which
would provide them with better employment opportunities. Melbourne OBA
after careful review and understanding of the long-term benefits to the students
wishes to support this project. We are humbly requesting the Members, Friends
and Well-wishers for a support of this worthy cause as you have supported us in
the past.
