Innovative social housing with South Tyneside homes
The energy ef昀椀ciency of Passivhaus design is one of the
reasons why our client, South Tyneside Homes, chose to adopt
the standard for new homes at their proposed pioneering
Reynolds Avenue project. They want to keep utility bills down
for residents, whilst also minimising their carbon footprint.
As the project enters its planning stages, Simon Mercer,
Asset Manager at South Tyneside Homes, explains more.

Passivhaus is proven to provide an

residential development and this smallscale project will allow us to see the impact
the technologies have on tenants’ lives.

and tackling fuel poverty. We have made a commitment to
address carbon emissions in the borough and are taking all
necessary steps to make the Council carbon neutral by 2030
through our climate change strategy and action plan.”
He continues to say “We will use this scheme to monitor
and review the impact of the systems within the homes
to help inform future development opportunities. As
technologies change, we need to ensure we are developing
homes that are 昀椀t for purpose in the future and meet the
needs of our tenants with a cost-effective strategy.”
