Age Concern: New
volunteers needed
By Cathy Shoebridge
IT is Easter again already and for
the first time we are having a couple of weeks where the Age Concern lunch club will be closed so
that we can have our kitchen deep
cleaned.
This happens regularly and is important in helping us maintain our 5
star food hygiene rating. We are also
taking the opportunity to have a few
other maintenance jobs completed.
Of course, as it is Easter, we are all
looking forward to chocolate and
Kay Hawkins, as always, has been
busy buying eggs for all our members.
Kay has been a volunteer with the
lunch club for 13 years and looks
after all aspects of membership and
welfare. Originally Kay drove the
minibus picking up members for
the lunch clubs and then moving on
to running the Monday lunch club
where we serve homemade soup,
freshly made sandwiches, toasties or
ploughmans.
This evolved into managing all the
kitchen volunteers for all three days
that we operate lunch clubs and
then taking over chairmanship of
the club in 2014.
Kay is a very busy person and
always has the best interests of our
members and volunteers at heart
and can be relied on for good sound
advice about the club and its members.
If you are thinking of coming to a
lunch club then Kay will chat to you
and tell you how it all works. The
contact details are at the bottom of
this article.
Kay decided to stand down as
chairman in 2020 although she still
looks after Monday lunch clubs,
membership, Christmas and Easter
gifts for members whilst still managing to renovate her house and do
Zumba three times a week.
All members and volunteers are
