The delighted coaches at Heart of Hayling Boxing Academy
A MUM was so impressed with the
kindness and dedication shown
by volunteer coaches at her child’s
sports club she has thanked them in
the best way she knows how.
Anna Walker’s son, Frankie, nine,
attends Heart of Hayling Boxing
Academy. The award-winning club
has trained hundreds of young
people since 2019 and also supports
their mental health and has taught
maths and literacy skills.
Their work has been recognised
both locally and nationally.
Anna, who works at Northney Tea
Rooms, was so delighted with her
son’s progress that she gave each of
the coaches a voucher for a cream
tea at the popular tea rooms.
She said: ‘I’ve been staying each
week to volunteer and help. I noticed every coach is voluntary and
how much effort goes into each
class. The children all thoroughly
enjoy it yet they only ask for a £2
donation.
‘And it’s not just boxing, they are
also promoting healthy eating and
other positive things too.
‘I’m the assistant manager at
Northney Farm tea room and
thought it would just be a lovely
gesture as a “thank you” to all the
coaches. When they get five minutes
they can have a free cream tea.’
Jerry Widdowson, co-owner of
the Hayling Herald and chairman of
Heart of Hayling Boxing Academy,
said: ‘We were really moved that
Anna felt she’d want to do that for
us. We do our best for the youngsters.’
