Constellations:
Part 1: Figures on Earth & Beyond
14 March 3 25 May 2024
Gallery 1957
London 1 Hyde Park Gate
Marking Gallery 19579s 8-year anniversary in March 2024, Constellations is a 2-part exhibition project co-curated by Katherine Finerty, Tracy Naa
Koshie Thompson and Nuna Adisenu-Doe. Celebrating the cultural exchange between London and Accra9s creative ecosystems, the exhibitions consider how their interconnectivity breaks boundaries of time and geography, inviting artists to respond to the unique natural and arti昀cial habitats of
both sites whilst considering elements that transcend them.
Part 1: Figures on Earth & Beyond, is a multi-media group exhibition interrogating our human inclination to centre ourselves in natural/arti昀cial
worlds. Instead, it considers how humans are part of a larger ecosystem. Responding to landmarks near Gallery 19579s London space such as the Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens, the exhibition critically examines human-made structures of power, memory, and agency within their wider
environments through concepts of decolonisation, art history, spirituality, technology and science 昀ction. Participating artists: Adelaide Damoah,
Alberta Whittle, Andrew Pierre Hart, Ayesha Feisal, Ayomide Tejuoso (Plantation), Denyse Gawu-Mensah, Henry Hussey, Johannes Phokela, Larry
Amponsah, Lisa C Soto, Lois Selasi Arde-Acquah, Modupeola Fadugba, Phoebe Boswell, Rashaad Newsome, Sarah Meyohas, and Zak Ové.
Constellations Part 2, taking place later this year in Accra, Ghana, will focus more on the spatial opportunities of Gallery 19579s space in Accra, in
dialogue with its surroundings.
