Landing on Your Feet
Warm waters, white beaches, dense forest - St Lucia has it all, and The
Landings has even more than that.
Relaxing in the huge hot tub on my balcony, I have a perfect view of the
marina. A boat cruises into view, mooring just beneath me. A beautifully tanned, beautifully dressed couple disembark. I take another sip of
bubbles: this is the life.
roundings. Activities include Caribbean dancing, silent discos and beach
Olympics, all of which help teens to make friends. By mid-week, there9s
a proper gaggle of young adults spending their time together, utilising
every piece of non-motorised watersports equipment - kayaks, paddleboards and snorkels, for example - which is also free to use within the
all-inclusive o昀ering.
While manifesting furiously, I9m also making the most of everything
that the resort has to o昀er on its all-inclusive package, which is superb.
Breakfasts are long, leisurely and varied, while deckchair time doesn9t
need to be interrupted if a cocktail is required: attentive sta昀 cater to
your every need with genuine warmth and friendliness - qualities that,
you soon realise, come naturally to St Lucians.
Yet as generous as the all-inclusive package is, it would be a shame to
come to The Landings and not explore other options both within and
beyond the resort. Over the course of our week, we dragged ourselves
o昀 our deckchairs, not only to swim in those bath-warm waters and The
Landings9 many pools, but to enjoy spa treatments, to zip-line above
the rainforest canopy, or to take a boat ride to a prime snorkelling spot,
teeming with marine life. On the return journey, the crew ply us with
rum punch, and then steer the boat in such a way as to make it tilt madly from side to side, while dance tunes blast and everyone screeches with
delight. On another excursion, we Segway through the forest, while our
guide points out medicinal plants and takes us to secret vantage points.
You can see why the English and the French fought so vehemently over
this island.
By night, on-site restaurants come to life with freshness and abundance
(and the occasional 昀re-eating performance). Perhaps it9s a Caribbean
