Tom Kerridge comes to Tryon Street
Chelsea has gladly welcomed Tom Kerridge9s new o昀ering, The
Butcher9s Tap and Grill, just o昀 the King9s Road on Tryon Street. This
iconic two-story Victorian boozer - formerly known as the Queen9s Head
- is now a prodigious home-from-home for Sloanie locals.
Decked out with a brand-new look for the Carolean era, with black and
burnt orange frontage, the interiors boast a hardwood bar, zinc lamps
and British-made tiles, with the meat locker pride of place.
A Great British Menu, Saturday Kitchen and Bake O昀 star, Kerridge
has a robust reputation in Marlow, and this is his third London annexe,
joining his restaurant at Corinthia Hotel and Kerridge9s Fish & Chips at
Harrods.
But before you go expecting the Michelin-starred fare Kerridge is known
for, the man himself is keen to impress that the Chelsea site is 昀rst and
foremost a pub, not a restaurant.
What attracted you to the Royal Borough?
The King9s Road is fantastic. The area is just stunning. One of my best
friends has a restaurant just around the corner, Claude Bosi9s
Bibendum. We previously lived in London for about 10 years and we9ve
been lucky enough to open a restaurant in the centre of town, over in
Whitehall. We were looking at doing a second site of the Butcher9s Tap
& Grill and wanted to 昀nd a local space and the landlord of the
building contacted us and asked if we wanted to come and have a little
look. When we saw the site, we absolutely fell in love with it.
What can we expect from The Butcher9s Tap and Grill, Chelsea?
Expect a local9s local. Think steak, burgers, and sports on the telly, and
you won9t be disappointed.
Your wife, Beth Cullen-Kerridge, is a successful sculptor. Will you be
showcasing any of her work at the new Chelsea branch?
And a good pub calls for excellent grub.
The Butcher9s Tap & Grill menu is not a far cry from its sibling-boozer in
Marlow, where you can pick your own cut of meat, be it T-Bone, sirloin
or Chateaubriand. Then there are the loaded fries, the gourmet burgers
and the posh hot dogs complete with caramelized onions.
A self-confessed fan of the wintry smore, Kerridge9s dessert options are
similarly moreish, with sticky to昀ee pudding and hazelnut cheesecake
being typical menu staples.
This month, we caught up with Tom to ask him more about his vision
for the Chelsea branch.
Beth does have work at the Corinthia, London (Kerridge9s Bar and
Grill) but since she has already exhibited work at the Saatchi Gallery,
she9s not really that bothered about having her work on display at the
pub down the road!
At your Marlow pub, you have a burger named after Sir Steve Redgrave, using locally sourced ingredients. Do you envisage a Chelsea
Burger named after a player? The Frank Lampard burger, perhaps?
Yes, we do have a charity burger at our Marlow Tap and Grill, the Sir
Steve Redgrave Venison Burger. All proceeds go to Sir Steve9s chosen
charity (the Marlow Rowing Club) and once we9ve opened we would
