to the west of the church campus with the idea that a church parking lot could
be created on a portion of the motel area so that congregants and visitors did
not need to cross busy Colonial Drive. Additionally, some of the funds were
used to install a new circular driveway for dropping off and picking up
visitors, congregants and childcare families in a safe environment, as well as a
concrete ramp to provide an accessible route into the Sanctuary.
The Education Building was also renovated in 2002-2003. Once that was
completed, a new church parking lot was constructed in 2006-2007, and the
original parking lot on the southwest corner of Colonial Drive and Highland
Avenue, which had been purchased in 1951 for $13,000, was sold. Those funds
reduced the mortgage held for the motel property. This brought all elements
of the church campus to the north side of Colonial Drive.
