NEW BRANDING UNVEILED AT
MAYOR DUNN’S STATE OF THE CITY ADDRESS
On January 26, 2023, Leawood Mayor Peggy Dunn revealed the City’s new brand logo and taglines, as well as a
special 75th anniversary logo that will be used throughout the City through 2024.
Mayor Dunn appointed a task force in the spring of 2022 to work on the new brand. The group was comprised
of Leawood residents Marc Elkins, Planning Commission chair, Anne Blessing Arts Council chair, Bill Clawson
Board of Zoning Appeals chair and Alice Hawk Leawood Foundation chair. Staff members Chris Claxton, Parks,
Recreation & Arts Director and Stephen Powell City Clerk also participated.
After several months of meetings and design reviews, the group recommended a fresh and vibrant new logo
that is modern, welcoming and unique to Leawood. Staff is currently working to prioritize its’ use on everything
from signage, vehicles, staff uniforms and new street banners. The City Council approved the recommendation on
September 6, 2022.
“Leawood has always valued its’ beautiful trees and still does” said Marc Elkins. Mayor Dunn shared her thoughts
stating “Trees are very important to the citizens of Leawood. Perhaps we are ready for our trees to have leaves”.
Thus, a new tree was born with four branches that represent the city’s four pillars: Leawood residents, Commercial/
Business owners, Employees of Leawood businesses, and Visitors.
Speaking of trees, three colors were selected to use in the designs: Blue Spruce, Spring Oak and Cottonwood.

The city would like to thank Willoughby Design
for their diligent and excellent work on this project.
