First Tee is transitioning from our current programming
to Age-Based Programming. First Tee is modernizing and
transforming to better meet the needs of kids, teens, and
families today. To determine the best way to do this, we gathered
feedback from network leaders and chapters as well as experts
in youth development and technology.
Through this research and listening, the need to move to age-based
programs became clear. We are adjusting to match the way nearly
all other youth sports and programs are arranged. More importantly,
we will meet the preference of kids and their parents to keep
participants in groups of similar age. At the same time, we are
completing a five-year process of updating, modernizing, and
refreshing First Tee’s curricula. We have aligned this to the
age-based model and are excited to bring this to the network.

Whether you are a beginner or have played for years. Tee it up with
First Tee and enjoy the game of golf and the First Tee’s Code of
Conduct.
When moving through the program participants have a plethora
of added benefits. Our partnership with the Kanas City Golf
Association and Youth on Course provide youth (age 10 years and
above or skill assessment qualification) a free handicap index and
membership to Youth on Course (a $40 value), included in their
program registration, which allows participants to play over 20 golf
courses in Kansas City and surrounding areas for just five dollars
per round.
On a national level, local participants of the First Tee of
Greater Kansas City have the option of applying for special
opportunities to improve their life skills and golf skills gained. Of
the ten opportunities, the one that stands out the most is the
Pure Insurance Championship benefiting the First Tee, where
participants have the chance to play the number 1 golf course in
America, Pebble Beach and are paired with PGA Tour Champions
players while being televised on the golf channel.
Remaining in the First Tee as a participant can serve very beneficial
as participants look to higher education. Through a grant, on
behalf of the First Tee of Greater Kansas City’s founder, the late
Al Hoffman, high-school students have the opportunity to receive
a college scholarship for excellent participation in TFTGKC. Overall,
of the participants in The First Tee 96% of teens in our program
say their golf skills have improved and 90% of our alumni
consider themselves lifelong golfers, and beyond golf 80% of teens
and alumni say The First Tee helped them become a better student.
