The Oxford School is one of the oldest schools in
Kansas and operated from 1877-1955. The one-room
schoolhouse was originally located at 135th and Mission
Road and was moved in March 2003 to its present
location at Ironwoods Park. Great care was taken to
restore the building to its original beauty with historic
accuracy.
The historic Oxford Schoolhouse is a participant in the
Kansas City Passport to Adventure program.
Oxford Education Field Trips
Second through sixth grade classes can
participate in a living history day of classes in
a 1909 rural one-room schoolhouse!
The Oxford experience is from 9:30 am - 2:00 pm
(30 minutes shorter for 2nd and 3rd graders).
This classroom program includes using old
fashioned slates for arithmetic, reading from
McGuffey’s readers, and a spelling bee. Lunch
break includes recess with historic games.
Students need to bring their own lunch.
Field trips can be tailored to meet your needs!
Field trips must be requested at least 4 weeks in
advance. The school can accommodate 30 students
maximum. Must have 3 adult chaperones. Cost per
student is $4.50.

Unleash your “nature bug” with a visit to the Prairie
Oak Nature Center! View live and taxidermied animals,
a large fish aquarium, various insects, and geological
collections. Grab a book and relax in our reference
library!
The nature center offers fun, educational, and personalized
programs for all ages. Scout programs are available to
assist leaders in helping their scout and youth groups
complete select merit badges and journeys. Please
schedule your program at least three weeks in advance as
program times are limited.
The Prairie Oak Nature Center continues to expand
it's interactive educational opportunities for the public.
