Learn to Fish
Into Our Woods

One - 2 hour class.
If you have always wanted to give fishing a try, or just want
to refresh the experience, this is the program for you!
After a brief introduction to the basics of fishing equipment
and handling of live fish, enjoy time at the pond, “reeling
them in”. Equipment and bait provided.
Participants should be able to comfortably hold the weight
of a cane pole/rod and reel (plus a fish of course)! An adult
chaperone must accompany any child under the age of
12. We practice “Catch and Release”. Fishing license is not
required for those under 16 years.

Spend an hour exploring the pond in Ironwoods
Park, learning about the creatures and plants
contained in and around this favorite location
of fishers and hikers alike. Come prepared to
get wet and muddy. All children must be
accompanied by an adult.
Busy Bees

Join us as we hike and explore the plants and
animals found in the wooded areas of Ironwoods
Park. How does the time of day create differences
in what we might see? What is the most common
creature found on the Raccoon Trail? What
happened to the outdoor classroom? Why are there
different trees in the park? Why does one tree have
such long thorns? Are fungi alive? Come and find
out. All children must be accompanied by an adult.
One Team Scavenger Hunt

All Ages • Sunday, June 20 • 11 am-3 pm

One - 4 hour session.
Using the many amenities found in Ironwoods Park,
your team will search for clues and tasks to solve the
puzzles. Each team will receive a packet at the Prairie Oak
Nature Center to begin their mission. This adventure is
self-guided and requires a two hour period to complete.
Begin any time between 10:00 am and 3:00 pm, and
finish by 5:00 pm. If your team needs extra time please plan
accordingly. We will schedule an additional date if needed,
so be sure to consider the wait list if we are already filled to
capacity. This is a fun way to acquaint your members with
some of the activities available at the park.

Exploring the Meadow

What good is a bee? If you don’t like honey, why should
you care about these creatures? Learn about the many
good things bees do, and how you can help our bees thrive.
You won’t find an apiarist on the nature center staff, but
you will find bee enthusiasts, and that’s enough to keep us
“buzzing” about the bees! All children 10 years or younger
must be accompanied by an adult.

Let’s explore the meadow in Ironwoods Park.
Together we will learn what lives here, and what
uses the meadow in order to survive. Come
prepared to hike in tall grasses, regardless of
weather. All children must be accompanied by an
adult throughout the duration of the class.
