The Leawood trails are a shining example of the
opportunities to walk, run, bike or rollerblade for
better physical or mental health, or to simply enjoy
the beauty of nature.
The Tomahawk Creek Trail connects users from Roe
to City Park. One of the most heavily used sections
is between City Park (106th and Lee Boulevard) and
Tomahawk Park (119th Street between Mission Road
and the parkway). Since the trail was constructed in
the early 1980’s, the only available restrooms have
been portable, non-flush, and without sinks or climate
control.
The Leawood Foundation is working with the Parks,
Recreation and Cultural Arts Department to change
this by raising funds for a men’s and women’s flush,
seasonably controlled, attractive restroom adjacent
to the north lake. With thousands of trail users, during
all seasons, this is a much needed amenity that will be
located about half way between the two parks.
The cost for site work, utilities and construction of
the restroom is estimated at $275,000. The City is
generously providing $100,000 towards the project
to encourage other donations, large or small, to bring
the project to fruition.
With your important donation, the project is planned
to commence in the spring of 2021 and be completed
in the fall.
